About the concert:
Since 2020, MOAASER has held annual courses on contemporary music research for Iranian students. Due to the ongoing “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement in Iran, we had to pause our fall course this quarter. As a result of the constant horrific news, artists lost motivation for work/creation, and many concerts have been canceled because artists are mourning in the wake of the ongoing massacre. The internet shutdown in Iran also significantly hindered our ability to connect digitally with MOAASER students. Consequently, this situation has caused a number of problems for the continuation of our fall course this year.
Despite adverse conditions, MOAASER continues to keep its doors open and aims to support the activities of students by amplifying their voices around the world. The purpose of tonight’s concert is exactly that. Our students have taken inspiration from current events and have used that to compose many of the works which you will hear tonight. We are deeply grateful for the generous support of the in^set trio, Persian Cultural Center, the Chehreazad Endowed Funds, the MOAASER faculty, and the incredible team of local performers who have made it possible for us to share the voices of our fiercely talented and brave MOAASER students with you tonight.
Our program is divided into three sections. We will start with the premiere of four electronic works, followed by a short talk introducing MOAASER. The second section will feature live performances of various instrumental works. ‘Voices from Iran’ will conclude with the premiere of three electronic works. Please join us after the concert for a small reception. We hope to see you there!
درباره‌ی کنسرت:
"معاصر" هر ساله دوره‌ای تحصیلی با تمرکز بر تحقیق در موسیقی معاصر برگزار می‌کند. اما به دلیل همزمانی شروع این دوره با خیزش عظیم مردم ایران با عنوان شناخته شده‌ی “زن،زندگی،آزادی”، این دوره ناتمام ماند. در تلاطم این جنبش عظیم، تولید اثر هنری برای ما هنرمندان، که در کنار مردم عزیز ایران سوگوار اخبار ناگوار بودیم، امری طاقت فرسا می‌نمود. در حقیقت، اکثر رخداد های هنری ایرانیان، در راستای حمایت از انقلاب نوین ایران، تا اطلاع ثانوی مسکوت ماندند. درد آور آنکه، موسسه "معاصر" راه ارتباط خود با دانشجویان را از دست داد: به علت قطعی اینترنت در ایران توسط حاکمیت، امکان ادامه دادن کلاسها برای دانشجویان موسسه‌ی معاصر تقریبا غیر ممکن بود. با توجه به این شرائط محدود کننده، ما، مؤسسان موسسه، بر آن شدیم که آغوش حمایت خود را از مسیری متفاوت برای دانشجویان باز کنیم. در نتيجه تصمیم گرفتیم که فضایی ایجاد کنیم که صدای مردم داخل ایران را از طريق اجرای موسیقی آهنگسازان ایرانی مقیم ایران، به گوش جهانیان برسانیم. این کنسرت، کنسرتی از آثار موسیقی دانشجویان ایرانی موسسه‌ی "معاصر" است؛ آنان که از ایرانند، و صدایشان، دردشان، امیدشان و حمایتشان را از مردم ایران از طریق موسیقی خود بیان کرده‌اند.
مفتخریم که با حمایت گرم اینست تریو، موسسه ی کانون فرهنگی ایرانیان و صندوق بخشنده‌ی چهره‌آزاد، توانستیم فضایی را ایجاد کنیم که این صداها شنیده شوند.
